Our Journey

So who is behind Embracing the Road Less Traveled? Here is a little more about us:

Hi, and welcome to ETRLT! We are so excited about this new project, and can't wait to have you along for the ride. My name is Miranda Hunt. I am 24-years-old, and I currently reside in Tallahassee, Florida. I graduated from Florida State University in August of 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science. Upon graduation, I had intentions of becoming a Social Studies teacher, but my life quickly led me in a different direction.

Shortly after receiving my diploma, I accepted a full time position within the state government. I tried my hardest to fit into the "8 to 5, glued to my desk, professional working world." However, it didn't take me very long to realize that pushing papers and answering phone calls is just not my calling in life.  But, I believe in using my full potential wherever I am placed, and will continue to do so as long as I am working a typical office job. Besides, if it wasn't for this type of job, I would have never realized my true passions in life.

I am a writer at heart. Writing, reading, blogging, calligraphy...these are the things that I am passionate about. I always have been, and I always will be. For years, I fell victim to the idea that passions have to be kept separate from realistic dreams and careers. Through the help of friends and life experiences though, I am now positive that your passion can be your career, and that is what I am working towards every single day. When I'm not at my day job, I am fighting for my dream job. I have no doubt that I will eventually be my own boss and making a living off of creating through the written word. I can't wait to share my journey here, and I hope that we can inspire each other along the way.

Interested in connecting with me further? You can find me over at my personal blog, Miranda Writes. I am there almost daily, writing about anything and everything that comes to mind. You can also find me on Twitter and Instagram. I love meeting new people, and am always available to chat. You can also keep an eye out for my calligraphy shop, Miranda [Hand]writes, which is coming very soon!

Welcome to our journey, and I hope you find the inspiration here to take control of your own. My name is Elena Novak. I'm 22 years old and living happily as a statistic in the home where I grew up. I graduated last May from FSU, did some traveling and an internship over the summer, and came back home reeling from four years of academia. Then came the questions.

"What do you want to do with your life?" Everyone always told me I should be a writer, but I entered college with a plan to work in politics. One huge mid-college crisis later, I became a Creative Writing major. Now I’m trying to catapult my way into the volatile world of scrambling, starving writers, all while trying to get in touch with the tug of the inner divine.

Last year, I started down a carefully carved out path to get married after graduation and get a stable job to support a comfortable suburban lifestyle. But it felt wrong.

Instead, I took charge of my life and realized that so many people are moving on autopilot on a societally-carved path, never questioning whether the destination they are headed toward aligns with the dreams and desires of their soul. Choosing to forge your own path is risky, uncomfortable, and often terrifying. But it's so worth it.

I believe we have the answers to our biggest questions. It's all a matter of taking the time to listen, stepping back from the noise of the external world and abiding in the peace within. It's not easy to do, but like any unfamiliar endeavor, it takes practice!

Please feel free to follow me on Twitter, check out my website, and if you have any comments, questions, or want to discuss the beautiful mess that is life, reach out!
